Running into an Acadian of this vintage is pretty rare in and of itself, as the trade tarriffs that led to it’s existence, and that of the other Canadian Oddball marques was fully phased out for 1970. Beaumonts, Mercury trucks, and the like were being wound down as they were no longer needed. Acadian lasted till 1972, but the top model was now “SS” aping it’s chevy twin, Instead of the traditoinal “Sport Deluxe” trim.
So these cars are out there, but are visually near identical to a Nova SS, this one is special.
It’s an unrestored Acadian Super Sport 396. with disc brakes and air conditioning. These are so rare that I’d never heard of it, and I nerd out on the Canadian-only cars. The Chev Rally wheels are correct as are the caps that don’t say chevrolet on them. Anybody ever seen one of these? I’m kind of long over Musclecars, but was shocked to see a serious factory bruiser that slipped past me in all those years I spent reading magazines and memorizing stupid Mopar facts.

Sweet ‘68 big block car. Man that’s a rare one. Engine is a 396/350.

396 on the badge. I wonder what emissions/etc. changes it has from a US model Nova SS if any. Probably goes like a meth-smoking macaque.

Right, but it’s a 396/350 and not a 396/375. Makes it more rare I think.
Probably not too many changes from the USA. They were all built in Willow Run starting w/ the 3rd gen and I *think* all the big block engines came from Tonawanda.

Ok, didn’t realize that gen of BBC was sold in versions based on the HP rating until I looked it up. Interesting. I imagine if the Acadian had struggled on into the mid ‘70s there would have been more temptation to two-track the engines for intended country, but in ‘72, with mostly just PCV and other add-ons and not much tuning difference it probably didn’t make sense.

One of my cousins has a Beaumont done for racing. His brother has a (I’m going to get this wrong ) Chevy II Nova SS. The car had the old and new names on it and was sold as such for the transition year. He’s had it since he was 16. The mix is rare enough that he has turned down serious money to keep it. Looks like a plain old Nova to me. There are a few older Acadians around town too. The earlier models with the square bodies are the style I go for.
